A number of web widgets and web
applications are now becoming available to include in web sites, blogs,
etc. For example, you can go to weather channel and get a
HTML snippet to include on your own web page. Each user can add
any HTML snippet in a
new portal window to his or her portal by pasting the HTML content into
a form.
To add a HTML snippet to your portal, click on Add Content at
the top of
the page to open the Content Tree. Open the Custom Content
sub-tree and select Add HTML
snippet.
This opens a form to specify the information needed to add a HTML snippet. Fill in the following fileds:
HTML Snippet: Paste the HTML snippet of the web page to be displayed in the
new window
Window Title: Specify
the title to be displayed on the header of the portal window.
Then click on add to include the
new window on your portal page. You may need to resize and move
the window to match your preferred layout of the portal page.
Note: The snippet may be a
Javascript fragment enclosed by <script type="text'javascript"
></script> tags, provided it works as a standalone web page.
Examples
A user may add a HTML snippet to a
portal for multiple reasons:
to create a list of links or
other HTML content useful on the portal page
to take advantage of the
growing number of web widgets and other
reusable components on the web.
Typical examples of
such content may include:
A weather summary window,
e.g. from Weather Channel
An RSS Scrolling Window for
specific feeds of interest
An RSS feed from a specific
web site (provided as a HTML snippet)
